Computer help please
® Cam (in the United Kingdom) 27 Dec 2001 at 15:21 GMT

My PC sometimes takes ages to connect to the internet. When I press ControlAltDelete to check
programs, it says 'AOL Not Responding'. It sometimes takes 10 minutes to connect. Is this caused by
lack of RAM? Might I be running too many other programs?

Cam dear I use AOL and there are a few things you need to do regularly!

Go to my aol at the top click on preferences then www when the box opens then click on delete
Temporary Internet files, check the box that says delete all off line content. Then click on
Settings, check for newer versions of stored pages, click never. Then go down to the bottom and on
ammount of disk space to use set this low to 90mbytes. Then go to the bottom and check clear
history to 0 and delete all history.

Do you store many e-mails if you do keep the numbers down.

Now connection do you use BT to connect you?

make sure you have the correct number to dial up, this is the most likely cause of slow connection
you are using the wrong number to dial up.

Thanks Frank. It's a BT landline, I update the dial up number often and I don't save any aol e
mails(I don't use the account really).

I'll do as you say. The AOL screen comes up, without the Welcome news page, and it just stays like
that for ages.

I've gone to aol preferences and clicked delete temp internet files, and it appears to have crashed
aol, or it may be taking a very long time to do it.

internet call charges included that works with NTL? or is AOL my only option?

they are slowly allow people on to it so as not to kill the system, and I don't know how much
longer I will have to wait
