thank god for thread #4! (and on a side note...)
Bolton striker Michael Ricketts has signed a new contract that will keep him at Bolton until 2007.
The 23-year-old, who joined Bolton for £250,000 from Walsall last summer, has scored 12 goals this
season.
His reward is a four-and-a-half year contract.
His reward from me though will be something completely different (he's in my fantasy footy team and
has helped me get to 2nd place!)

Just been watching Celtic beat Livingston 2-0 - not their best performance, and no Larsson
But during the match, one of the commentators used the term "nutmeg" - it's some kind of footballing
move, I think it's a bit different from a dummy but I'm not sure. Does anyone know why it's called
a "nutmeg"? It's driving me nuts...
|
 | Re: Footy thread no. 4 !!!!!!! ® dancesliketwat (in the United Kingdom) 19 Dec 2001 at 23:12 GMT |
|
|
Isn't nutmeg some sort of spice or something to do with flavouring? Perhaps it's something that's
not done very often either in cooking or football, indicating something a bit special. Ok, i don't
know really.

 | Re: Footy thread no. 4 !!!!!!! ® Ged (in the United Kingdom) 20 Dec 2001 at 09:22 GMT |

Well, a nutmeg is when you put the ball through the opponents legs, especially the keeper, in a
cunning way to get the ball past him. No idea where the phrase comes form though.
And what are leeds doing? Stop piss arsing about and get rid of him, if you can find a buyer.

I watched the highlights of Dagenham & Red v Exeter (in the FA Cup) last night, and Dagenham
completely thrashed exeter 3-0! and all goals where in the 1st half of the match!
Dagenham were outstanding (for a team in the conference) and if they play like that against ipswich,
then i reckon they could win.

Hmmmm - Now there's a coincidence. There used to be a really nice park in Blackburn - in fact, when
I was in the UK, I liked this park so much I used to have a ticket to get in every Saturday
afternoon.
As I recall the park was called Ewood, it had a rectangular field in the middle and people would
like to dress up in blue and white.
Sometimes they show pictures of this field on my TV here in Canada. And I get very upset to see any
suffering, expecially by the people dressed in blue and white.

Unfortunately i'm not.
I did have the pleasure of living in an around the Blackburn area for a few years, and have been to
watch them, when the lovely Jack Walker was chairman - very sad loss of a great man. I did have the
pleasure of seeing premiership football at Ewood.
Again, unfortunately my team is and always will be Wigan Ath. This is due to the fact that i was

Dave(Gml) and Jellybaby1969 - I am not particularly anti-Blackburn EXCEPT next weekend, that is.. I
lived in Darwen for a few months, during 1990, and found the people very warm and friendly...
We have already taken three points off Rovers this season, and need another three next weekend,
that's all - nothing personal intended... "All's fair in love and footy!"
I still think our improving home form will see us through (as against the much-fancied Aston Villa,
last weekend) - if we do go down, then it will not be the first time I have suffered this, and we
will bounce back..
Quite frankly, I see the likes of Bolton, Blackburn (sorry, Dave!) and even Sunderland being drawn
into trouble...
As for 'talent' then David Dunn gets my vote, at Blackburn - by far the best-looker in that team..
Phwoooaaar!!

I don't know when the results will be announced, OR whether I am looking forward to them!
I am looking forward to doing a bit of partying tonight, down at the 'local' - it is the birthday of
a very close friend..

Blackburn 0 Derby 1.....
That is the main result - at last we have gained three away points - looking at the other scores,
any other result would have been disastrous!!
Well done, Ipswich, by the way...!!
Sunderland, Bolton and Blackburn will soon be in BIG trouble....

Sorry, LI, I can't help you there, but I hope you are right - Coventry escaped enough (deserved)
relegations before, so why the hell do they assume they will 'bounce straight back,' as though
through some 'God-given right?'
Let them stay down, and 'slum it' for a while...
lol...

Yeah. Although I think Notts Forest have been slumming it for far too long!

Well, it's been an interesting period! Nobody seems to want this league, although I personnaly
think, now, that Anelka might be the catalst we need to go on from here. Ipswich have turned the
corner I think, they'll slowly move out of the R zone. Everton are in free-fall, and need to sort
it out quick, I'd be gutted to see them go down.

A certain Scouse friend of mine (LFC fan) would be 'over the moon' to see Everton relegated - I am
neutral, on that one.. All I want is to see DCFC haul themselves to safety, and the away win at
Blackburn, was a great relief, after the West Ham result...

i reckon you'll be ok dc.
one thing that's a little disturbing though is that bristol city is top of D2. Notts Forest could be
playing them next season. Actually on second thoughts, that'd be good as it'd mean i could go see
them play without travelling too far!

Bristol City, eh? They always used to be our 'bogey team' during the mid-eighties...
