Don't be so mean. There are ladies and others who might appreciate her in here, and Dame Julie is
(so far) only behind one door out of the 24. I'm sure there will be plenty of nice hunks behind
some of the others, although if people stir up too much trouble, we might find "Jenny" without her
infamous 'cello.

Noone's opened the door for Thursday 7th yet. Well, here goes....

...and it's Bette Davis in a cat-fight with Susan Hayward, with Louise Brooks cheering them on.
Ouch! Mind what you do with that cigarette holder, Bette.

Re: BLUE ROOM ADVENT CALENDAR

Bette. Bona image, all the same.

Re: BLUE ROOM ADVENT CALENDAR

I suppose by the 60s Bette was a little doddery, but I still fancy her chances. Hayworth versus
Lana Turner might be a more even match.

Unchanged message

Re: BLUE ROOM ADVENT CALENDAR
Brodie (in the United Kingdom) 7 Dec 2000 at 23:47 GMT

Sorry to continue this slight diversion but re PQ's and Mark D's postings I have to agree that
whilst I love La Hayward's fifties films, especially "With a Song in My Heart", I'll Cry Tomorrow"
and "I Want to Live" she was never quite in the same league as Bette. A particular example of this
was Susan's remake of Bette's "Dark Victory" in 1963 "Stolen Hours". No contest.

BTW, a lot of current 'bands' could learn from the lip-synching of Susan Hayward in " With a Song in
My Heart" it was excellent. She could in fact sing quite well as she demonstrated in "I'll Cry
Tomorrow" but like Ava Gardner in "Showboat" the studio wouldn't let her. I wonder how good the
'stars' of today might be in similar circumstances.
