LOL!

The cul-de-sac where we live consists of semi-detached pairs of houses, and the 'pair' before us have got together, and put on a very impressive display on the front of both houses, including santa in the middle climbing a ladder, PQ would love it :) smiling/happy/joking

sounds totally enchanting, River. I've been considering getting a massive inflatable snowman to put on the roof, but I’m afraid the neighbours would be too refined to complain.

Re: Christmas countdown!
® River Thames (in the United Kingdom) 8 Dec 2004 at 13:46 GMT

LOL!

None of us would ever complain Toptom, they are fabulous neighbors, well everyone in the road is, we all get on very well, that particular pair of houses both have young children under 10, and they do it for them. But, when they switch the lights on at night, they reflect in the car windows of both our neighbour(whom we are semi-detached to) and ours(both cars parked on our driveways) which entertains our cat(looking out of the lounge window) all evening, I think she imagines they are colourful mice :D laughing

then, for the cat’s sake at the very least , you should positively consider having some kind of outdoor decoration. Santa’s sleigh (plus some brown-nosed reindeer) could look splendidly vulgar if it were floodlit properly.

'Brown-nosed' sounds highly dubious - how would they have got so brown ?

LOL! :D laughing

Thankfully Toptom, what they do is nothing like as 'in your face' as that, in fact I do admit, it *does* look quite good, especially on xmas eve, when the children sing carols. And one xmas my nepthew put some outdoor lights on a tree, which was on the corner of the front lawn/driveway of my sisters/brother-in-laws house, he powered them from the garage, and they did look very good, hes talented :) smiling/happy/joking

Toptom - I have this singing Christmas tree you might like. I think it even has volume control. It's not large enough to float on the roof, but you could give it as mean hostess gift to a place you hope not to be invited back.

What is its repertoire ?

Unchanged message

Re: Christmas countdown!

Jingle Bells. But it apparently has a motion sensor, so at any moment and without warning, it can break into song.

I wonder if whoever wrote J.B. gets royalties every time the damn thing goes off. They'd be a multi-billonaire.

Unchanged message

Re: Christmas countdown!
® adl (in Canada) 8 Dec 2004 at 17:15 GMT

I don't know about Jingle Bells, but I do know that royalties are still due on Happy Birthday! Thats why many restaurants and television shows will no longer allow anyone to sing or even hum the song or anything that sounds like it.

I was most tempted back in the tail end of September in Argos where they had a 12" Homer Simpson dressed in Santa Claus attire, but then I thought "Where the hell would I put it?". Shame really cos it was an absolute steal at £70.

WTF has "science" got to do with it?

In any vaguely scientific usage height would be measured in metres and " would represent seconds (of arc).

I've not had a calendar since 1999. Calendars are for wimps, I refuse to be chained to an artificial concept of the space-time continuum. There's nothing like the music of the spheres, the naked mathematics of Creation. Just think of quantum mechanics, the dreams that stuff is made of...and you want me to have 12 sheets of paper with the numbers 1 to 31, and this will order my life? I think not!

Yours Sincerely,
Bev

Maybe not your life per se - but it organises most other people's lives and if you want to socialise/do business with them, then I'd think it an awful lot easier to be aware of their time program.

I had the misfortune to nip into Kidderminster early this morning, as usual I had forgotten something, there was a huge queue to get into the food hall in M&S, whats the matter with people, it's as if they think the shops are shutting for good.
Was I glad to get out of there, Kidderminster NOT M&S.

why do so many have to leave it to the last minute!

A cold snap is forecast starting tonight so get your snow shoes out and your chains.
